RRB exam date for Sr. Section Engineer, Junior Engineer, Senior Supervisor & Depot Material Superintendent is decided which is 14.12.2014 and 21.12.2014. Thus the candidates who have applied for the examination are all set to start preparing for the examination. All applicants have 3 month time for preparation but Most of the applicants of railway engineering exams are in dilemma over what to prepare for the RRB written exam, as not much have been said about the exam pattern or syllabus in the notification.

RRB exam merit list is prepared based on the written test alone; finding the preparation materials for RRB engineering exam is of paramount importance to succeed.

This blog post is therefore being made to help you prepare for the RRB written exam for JE and SE.First let us discuss the pattern of RRB exam for engineers.

Pattern for RRB exam:

As per my last experience about the pattern of RRB written exam the written exam will consist of following two groups of test sections:

Aptitude Test: It will have test sections on General Awareness, Arithmetic, General Intelligence and Reasoning.

Technical Test: It will have questions from engineering 

There are total 150 Objective Type questions to be answered in 2 hours.
There is negative marking - 1/3rd of the allotted marks for each question.


Syllabus for RRB Written Exam for JE and SE:


The standard of questions for the written examination will be generally in conformity with the educational standards and/or minimum technical qualifications prescribed for the posts. The question paper will have 150 questions, out of which about 90 questions will be of Technical Ability & General Science and about 60 questions from General Awareness, Arithmetic, General Intelligence and reasoning. The Technical portion of about 90 questions shall cover basic concepts of Science and Engineering as per following details:

1.      Basic concepts of science 
2.     Civil
3.     Mechanical
4.      Electrical
5.      Electronics
6.      Computers
7.     Environment &Pollution Control
8.     Instrumentation & Measurement and Engineering
9.      Drawing / Graphics.

Note : Junior Engineer (IT) syllabus : MS Office; Computer fundamentals & organization; C , C++ & Java language; Information systems; DBMS; System programming; Operating systems; UNIX; SAD; Data & Network communication; Web technology & programming; Software Engineering; Environment & Pollution Control

I had searched lot for sample papers/ previous years exam papers specific to RRB exam – but quality of the sample papers are not that good and also not authentic.
